Here are a few tips that you can use to maintain your windows and keep them operating the way they should.

In order to keep the windows in use and operating functionally, there are a few things that you will need to do a couple of times a year. This maintenance routine may not be something that excites you, but it will save you a lot of money in the long run.

The first thing you should do is get rid of all of that dust, dirt, and debris. You can use a vacuum or rag to do this. I like to use one of those really small paint brushes to really get into those cracks and crevasses. After the dirt is all gone, take a wet rag and wipe it down. Make sure to wipe around the entire window pane and still.

Once it is clean then you should check the window and its components for any defaults. Check the lock and hinges to see if they are working. Give them a quick spray them with WD-40, silicone spray, or some kind of lubricant so they will not make any weird noises and will operate more smoothly.

Many times you will find that the locks don’t operate anymore because they are crusted with paint. If this is the case, you can remove the paint by unscrewing the locks and let them soak in some pain thinner. Take a rust brush and scrape the paint off before reattaching the lock.

If your windows are removable, by all means take the window out to give it a more thorough clean down. This way you can get to the hard to reach tracks that the window slides on. Sometimes these tracks may need to be greased in order for the window to slide on them properly.

Swing lever windows should be opened all of the way and the swing levers should be greased and lubricated as well.

If there are any parts of the window that are allowing in air because of caulking or a leaky pane, be sure to remove the bad parts and replace them with no parts that wont leak. If you have to buy all new windows, that might be an option worth considering. You may not realize how much money these faulty windows could be costing you and your family.

This stew is very tasty with the flavors of V-8 juice and dry onion soup mix giving it a slightly different twist. The Oven Beef Stew bakes at 350 degrees for 3 hours. While it is silicone baking mat, mix up the Easy Pineapple Cake and let it bake beside the stew.

OVEN BEEF STEW
This is an old recipe from my childhood in Southern Indiana.

1 lb. cubed stew beef
1 large onion, sliced
1 cup sliced potatoes
1 cup sliced carrots
1 cup sliced celery
1 can sliced mushrooms, drained
2 large cans V-8 juice
1 pkg dry onion soup mix
1 tbsp instant tapioca
1 tbsp sugar
1 tbsp salt
1 tbsp pepper

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Place beef in the bottom of a large roasting pan. Layer the vegetables over the beef. In a mixing bowl, mix together the juice, soup mix, tapioca, sugar, salt and pepper. Pour the mixture over the vegetables. Cover the roasting pan and bake at 350 degrees for about 3 hours.

MS SOWDERS’ EASY PINEAPPLE CAKE

1 large can crushed pineapple with juice
1 box white or yellow cake mix
1 cup chopped pecans or hickory nuts
1 stick butter
powdered sugar, if desired

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease an oblong cake pan. Pour undrained pineapple into the greased pan. Sprinkle the dry cake mix over the pineapple and smooth down. Sprinkle nuts over the batter. Cut the stick of butter into small pieces and dot over the batter. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour. No need to frost this cake. Sprinkle with powdered sugar, if desired.
